Founded by U of A graduate, Todd Rutter, A Cappella Catering has been a quiet pillar in the Edmonton food community for three decades and in 2019, a chance conversation with an old friend and former employee led to us connecting with Todd and business partner and COO Kim Mahoney. The duo in reflection mode around where the business is and where they wanted to take it. 

We eagerly partnered with Destroy the Box Creative on a full re-brand (including an image overhaul!) for A Cappella Catering and tackled everything from website re-design to reviewing and updating menus and offerings, writing and editing sales collateral, curating swag and creating a formal community investment strategy. During this time, A Cappella also took their show on the road (literally) with the addition of mobile services with Curbside Food Truck and you know we were along for the ride!

In Spring of 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic hit – 90% of A Cappella’s business was lost, tough decisions had to be made around staffing and operations and the staff of nearly 100 was whittled down to 10. With a skeleton crew – A Cappella went into survival mode and BONAFIDE kicked it into high gear seeing an opportunity to deliver scratch made meals during annual holidays and the A Cappella’s “Take and Bake” trend not only became a cult favourite among Edmontonians (it’s even named in the Tomato Top 100 things to eat in Edmonton!) but it also sustained their business during the toughest of times.

As the hospitality industry starts to rebuild – we continue to support Todd, Kim and the team at A Cappella and are in awe of their resilience and can-do attitude.
