CALGARY-BORN VINE ARTS WINE AND SPIRITS PLANTS ROOTS IN EDMONTON – NOW OPEN ON 124 STREET
The award-winning boutique retailer expands North on the QE2 and officially opens their third location and first in Edmonton.
EDMONTON, September 12, 2023 – For over a decade, Calgary’s Vine Arts Wine and Spirits has curated beer, wine, spirits and speciality cocktail ingredients from around the world, recognized as one of Canada’s top boutique liquor stores and beloved among Alberta’s culinary scene. This week, Edmonton wine and cocktail enthusiasts rejoice as Vine Arts YEG opens at 10961 124 Street in Westmount – just west of downtown.
“The growth within Alberta’s culinary community between city limits has been really exciting to watch over the years,” says Vine Arts co-founder, Jesse Willis. “We join a long list of beloved, locally-owned brands and retailers like the Italian Centre Shop, Knifewear, Made by Marcus, SEOUL Fried Chicken and Padmanadi who now operate in Edmonton AND Calgary to serve more of our loyal customers.”
At Vine Arts, visitors will find a tasty array of fine wines, exclusive offerings, crowd favourites and bottles for both special occasions and everyday enjoyment. In the mood for cocktails? The extensive selection of spirits, bitters, liqueurs and syrups from around the globe and made locally will tempt amateur and professional mixologists alike.
Long-time fans of YEG’s food scene will know General Manager, Cheata Nao. Born and raised in Edmonton, Nao has been working in the Western Canadian wine industry for over 14 years. As a Wine and Spirit Education Trust (WSET) instructor, she brings a wealth of hands-on food and wine knowledge from time spent in the Okanagan Valley and Vancouver.
“Vine Arts staffers are some of the most knowledgeable in the country and love to deliver service and education in the most unpretentious way,” says Nao. “The team we’ve assembled will follow in our Calgary counterparts’ footsteps, giving visitors great advice and recommendations while keeping things simple and approachable for those new to world of wine. We’ll also be happy to geek out with fellow wine aficionados of course! It’s going to be a very fun place to shop and explore.”
The Vine Arts team has been planning for several years to open a shop in Edmonton, where many of their favourite restaurants and longtime clients are located. The 2,000 square foot space in the newly constructed 124 Westmount building designed by Jen X Jen features a stunning arch above the point of sale, 10 ft. tasting bar and hand-painted mural created by Edmonton-born, Vancouver-based Lee Nielsen.
With over 1,000 products in stock, grand opening festivities are set to run from September 15-17 featuring wine tastings by 17 importers, local breweries and distilleries including Juice Imports, Sea Change Brewing Co. and Field Notes.
“We’re honoured to call this vibrant neighbourhood home,” says Willis. “The chance to contribute and be part of this community’s incredible food and wine scene is something we’re all very proud of.”
