Canada’s largest wine bar, Vin Room is proud to announce dog-friendly patios at their two SW Calgary locations from Sunday to Wednesday, all summer long.

Owner/proprietor, Phoebe Fung was inspired to approach the City of Calgary for permits after visits to cities all over North America with Dom, her six-year-old Pomeranian, in tow. It was clear dog-friendly dining establishments are on the rise. “Cities like Portland, Seattle and San Francisco have amazing culinary scenes that welcome dogs to be part of their social landscape.” says Fung, “Drinking and dining al fresco as a whole family, including Dom –  is really special. It’s been a joy for me to find a way to make that afterwork cocktail or dinner out on the town completely guilt-free by allowing our valued guests to bring their fur-babies along.”

For Fung, if Vin Room’s patios in Mission and Aspen are hosting canines, it had to be done right. Custom furniture made by local artisans along with a hydration bar, dog beds and cleanup station are amenities par for the course when entertaining furry friends onsite. A collaboration with Bon A Pet Treat Bakery resulted in a recipe exclusive to Vin Room for homemade dog biscuits, baked in-house and is complimentary for every pooch enjoying the patio or a take home treat extended to every guest who has a dog at home.

In addition to the four day offering each week, Vin Room is also providing private training classes every second Sunday. The $40 registration for Puppies and Prosecco includes two glasses of wine or prosecco, a $20 gift certificate from Dry Cleaning by Dave, housemade dog treats and a bag of dog-friendly goodies. $5.00 from each ticket will be donated to the Calgary Humane Society.

Fung hopes this summer brings together like-minded people from across the city to get together at Vin Room locations to enjoy vino, snacks and great company. “Traditionally, gathering spots for people with dogs have been limited to outdoor parks and trails. At Vin Room this summer, a glass of wine with fellow dog enthusiasts and our furry friends make our patios is an exciting new option for the community.”

ABOUT PHOEBE FUNG

A self proclaimed “accidental restaurateur”, Phoebe Fung’s business acumen is anything but chance. Born in Fort McMurray, Alberta, the graduate of the University of Alberta (B. Comm) and Queen’s University (MBA) spent over a decade successfully carving out a career in the oil and gas sector before changing her focus to fine food and wine. While on sabbatical from her job in the energy sector, Fung decided to turn her passion for culinary arts into a business. Having traveled the world — visiting many a wine cellar along the way — Fung has a clear passion for vino and she longed for a local refuge to sample world-class grapes by the glass. In addition to opening three Vin Room locations, Fung has also launched VR Wine, a retail shop for wine, beer and spirits.
